Week of Compassion Offering, Feb. 21 and Feb. 28

The next two Sundays, we will collect a special offering for Week of Compassion, the relief ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). All moneys collected fund several ministries, including relief and refugee efforts in areas ravaged by natural disaster, famine, and civil unrest, efforts to develop sustainable agricultural and education in poor regions, emergency assistance to congregations facing needs after fire or natural disaster. They have been involved in ongoing efforts along the Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina. They are active in the Haitian relief effort.

In recent years, rough $3 million has been raised each year to support these efforts, administered by Week of Compassion and its many mission partners, including Church World Service. Here is where money and effort went in 2009. As you can see, it is a worthwhile ministry, well worth supporting.
